Mercy Health Lesmurdie and Mont Clare

Swan Group successfully delivered two simultaneous fitout projects for Mercy Health, a leading national healthcare provider.

Location: Claremont and Lesmurdie
Designers: T & Z Architects
Duration: 12 weeks
The works involved a partial refurbishment at Villa Maria Hostel in Lesmurdie and a full kitchen upgrade across five operational kitchens at Mercy Place Mont Clare in Claremont. Each site presented unique challenges, particularly in the context of active aged care environments during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, Swan Group coordinated each scope with minimal disruption to residents and staff, maintaining strict health and safety protocols throughout.

Villa Maria Lesmurdie refurbishment improved resident spaces

Villa Maria Hostel is an established residential aged care facility in Lesmurdie. Swan Group was engaged to carry out a partial refurbishment of the premises. Works focused on enhancing the internal amenity for residents and staff while preserving day-to-day operations within the facility. The scope included interior updates to improve comfort and accessibility for residents. Given the sensitivity of the live environment, Swan coordinated closely with facility management to stage works in a way that minimised impact. Noise, dust, and access control were all carefully managed. Additional site protocols were implemented due to the COVID-19 conditions at the time of delivery. This included mandatory testing, temperature checks, and controlled movement of personnel to maintain a safe environment for vulnerable residents and essential care staff. The result is a cleaner, more functional facility with upgraded living areas that better support the needs of ageing residents. The staged approach and focus on safety allowed Villa Maria to continue its operations with minimal interruption.

Mercy Place Mont Clare kitchen upgrades delivered in sequence

At the same time, Swan Group also delivered kitchen refurbishments at Mercy Place Mont Clare, a modern aged care facility located in Claremont. The project involved renovating five kitchens that serve residents across different wings of the facility. All kitchens were upgraded to modern standards of hygiene and usability. Works included the replacement of kitchen joinery, surfaces, fittings, and equipment to improve the quality and efficiency of food preparation in the facility. Given the kitchens’ role in daily operations, Swan Group sequenced works to ensure at least one kitchen remained operational at all times. This careful staging meant the facility could continue serving residents fresh meals without relying on external catering or compromising food service. As with the Lesmurdie site, enhanced COVID-19 procedures were put in place across the Mont Clare project. These included daily health screenings, controlled access points, and clear communication with Mercy Health’s management and care teams to avoid cross-contamination. The new kitchens have improved the working environment for staff and enhanced food delivery services across the facility.

Focused delivery across active aged care environments

Both projects demonstrate Swan Group’s capacity to deliver sensitive fitouts in operational healthcare settings. The team’s planning and adherence to COVID-safe measures enabled works to be completed safely and efficiently without impacting the continuity of care provided by Mercy Health. The upgrades at Villa Maria Lesmurdie and Mercy Place Mont Clare reflect a practical, well-managed approach to improving aged care environments. By coordinating with facility teams and staging works effectively, Swan delivered each scope on time and to a high standard of finish.
