Murdoch Uni Hydrometallurgy Relocation

This project involved the complex relocation and upgrade of the existing Hydrometallurgy Laboratory.

Location: Murdoch
Designers: Donaldson Boshard, Forth Consulting, Plexus Engineers , BEST Consultants
Size: 1,138m2
Duration: 4 Months
The scope included the installation of fume cupboards and medical gas, a new reverse osmosis water treatment system, and a comprehensive upgrade to the air conditioning system. Additionally, two internal plant rooms and one external plant area were constructed to support the enhanced facility.

Retrofitting mechanical and electrical services into an existing building posed significant challenges due to the structural limitations and confined spaces. These complexities demanded detailed planning and precise coordination throughout the project. Open and consistent communication with the consultant team was essential, playing a critical role in identifying and resolving on-site constructability issues.

One of the most demanding aspects of the project was the installation of the new chimney for fume cupboard exhaust system through the building, along with the construction of the new Plant Room on level 2 . These works involved high-risk activities, including the lifting and positioning of large, heavy mechanical and electrical equipment into a newly constructed second- floor plant room.

The successful delivery of this phase required a high level of planning, risk management, and on-site coordination. All activities were carried out with strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring that every potential risk was addressed, and that work was completed efficiently and safely.
