Maintaining uninterrupted operations at the depot throughout the construction period was a critical component of the project. From the outset, Swan prioritised the development of a construction methodology that would allow the site to remain functional while works progressed. This required careful coordination with PFM and PTA to ensure that all construction activities were staged and sequenced to minimise impact on daily operations. Buses continued their scheduled movements in and out of the depot, and all essential services remained active. Construction zones were isolated and managed to prevent cross-over with operational areas, with safe access maintained for all personnel and vehicles. Each stage of work was carefully planned to maintain both safety and efficiency across the site. This collaborative planning approach helped to avoid disruptions and ensured that both construction and operational teams could perform their tasks without compromise.
The result was a practical, well-constructed facility that met the PTA’s specifications and operational requirements. The new administration building provided staff with a more functional and comfortable workspace. The new workshop and cleaning bay enhanced the depot’s service and maintenance capabilities, while the expanded car park improved overall site access and usability. The early completion of stage one offered immediate benefits to the PTA, and the remaining construction stages followed as planned. All elements of the fitout and construction were completed in line with agreed timelines and quality expectations. The enhancements to both new and existing infrastructure resulted in a more efficient and effective operating environment for depot staff and bus operations alike. Through a combination of thoughtful planning, stakeholder coordination, and structured delivery, Swan completed the Rockingham Bus Depot project to the satisfaction of all involved.
