This long-anticipated fitout was designed to improve both functionality and durability, meeting the growing needs of over 700 club members and volunteers who depend on the space for lifesaving operations, training, and community engagement. The scope included a complete overhaul of critical facilities, providing improved storage, upgraded training areas, and enhanced amenities tailored to a coastal environment. The build was structured to support the Club’s vital role as a year-round service hub for water safety and rescue activities.

Fitout designed for coastal resilience and long-term use

Given the Club’s exposure to harsh marine conditions, all materials and construction methods were selected for longevity and resistance to environmental stress. The works began with the demolition of existing building elements, including structural walls, followed by extensive clearing and preparation of all areas for reconstruction. New concrete slabs and structural steel installations formed the foundation of the new layout. Masonry and framed walls were introduced to redefine internal and external zones, optimising the space for functionality and workflow. Roofing upgrades included new support members and complete replacement of the existing roof sheeting. Materials were chosen specifically to withstand salt-laden air and high winds. These included coastal cement products, stainless steel brick hardware, and structural steel treated with C5 paint for maximum corrosion protection. Roofing was completed with Colorbond Ultra products, offering superior durability and thermal efficiency. To further reinforce weather resilience and aesthetic integrity, the fitout incorporated external-grade timber and Arcashield-treated render surfaces. These additions not only enhance structural performance but also contribute to a clean, modern finish that aligns with the Club’s visual identity.

Functionality, safety and community impact

The internal fitout placed a strong emphasis on operational efficiency and user comfort. New modern change rooms were introduced to accommodate growing membership and improve accessibility. Additional storage areas were constructed to house vital rescue and safety equipment, ensuring quick access during emergency response situations. High-detail fitout work throughout the facility ensured seamless integration between new and existing structures. Attention to detail across finishes, joinery, and layout supports the day-to-day use of the Club, enhancing both training delivery and community engagement. The completed project now stands as a functional, fit-for-purpose asset for the Swanbourne community. Its design and construction reflect the evolving needs of the Surf Life Saving Club while providing a robust facility that will serve both members and volunteers well into the future. This upgrade ensures the Club is better equipped to continue its essential services, from patrols to education and outreach, in a safer, more resilient environment.
